Cardano ADA Tests $0.20 Support As Selling Pressure Builds

Cardano ADA
  • Cardano ADA is trading near $0.20 under sell pressure and low volume.
  • ADA momentum starts to slow down near neutral zones as major moving averages help to provide support at $0.20.
  • Long liquidations are seen as the primary driver in ADA trading after Dijkstra developments.

Cardano ADA is testing the $0.20 level after extending its decline from last Saturday’s high of $0.259. The token is trading at $0.2016 and has fallen about 9.08% over the past week, while its 24-hour market capitalization has edged 0.59% higher to $7.4 billion.

At the same time, recent derivatives data shows that long positions accounted for nearly all ADA liquidations, while broader market pressure followed hawkish remarks from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh at Jackson Hole.

Cardano ADA Holds Near Key Technical Support

The $0.20 area has become a closely watched level for ADA after the cryptocurrency rejected resistance around the 200-day EMA. The 200-day EMA is positioned near $0.2454-$0.2455, while previous resistance was also recorded between $0.235 and $0.255.

On the daily ADA/USD chart, the price has moved back toward the middle Bollinger Band, which is based on the 20-period simple moving average at $0.1981. The price remains slightly above that level. A move below the middle band would place attention on lower support.

The moving-average structure also shows ADA trading between the 20-day EMA at $0.2011 and the 100-day EMA at $0.1975. The 50-day EMA stands at $0.1913.  The 0.5 retracement level on the Fibonacci chart is set at $0.2001 while the 0.382 retracement level is found at $0.1933.

On the other hand, another support level can be seen at $0.1711. While the downside risk from the Bollinger Bands pattern stretches to $0.160 when the middle Bollinger band breaks down.

Momentum Slows Down for ADA in Sideways Move

Momentum oscillators have also been affected by the recent run-up in price. The 14-period Relative Strength Index has dropped to 52.86 after hitting an overbought condition. The RSI is now close to its 60.42 signal line, putting it in a neutral-to-bullish condition.

Resistance levels continue to cluster above the present price level.Immediate resistance is identified around $0.2115, while the 0.786 Fibonacci level is at $0.2168. The 1.0 Fibonacci level is located at $0.2292. The 200-day EMA around $0.2455 remains another dynamic resistance level.

ADA’s weekly decline has occurred alongside weaker trading activity. The token is down 9.27% from last Saturday’s high according to the provided market data, while the 24-hour volume has fallen by 50%. The combination places the current consolidation between weakening short-term activity and several nearby technical support levels.

Long Liquidations Dominate ADA Derivatives

Derivatives activity has added another factor to the current price movement. Cardano recorded approximately $1.17 million in liquidations over the last 24 hours, according to Coinglass data provided. Long positions represented $1.16 million of the total, while short liquidations amounted to $11,410.

The resulting imbalance between long and short liquidations was reported at 10,166%. The figures show that long traders accounted for the overwhelming majority of forced position closures during the latest decline.

The liquidation activity followed ADA’s move down from a recent high near $0.218. The decline occurred as the token attempted to maintain the $0.20 area, making the level a key point in the current consolidation.

Fed Comments Add Pressure to Crypto Markets

ADA’s latest decline has also occurred during broader cryptocurrency market weakness following comments from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh at the Jackson Hole event.

September rate-hike odds increased to 42% from 35% a day earlier, according to CME FedWatch data provided. Warsh’s remarks came as the market was monitoring the Federal Reserve’s policy outlook, and ADA declined 3.66% over the preceding 24-hour period to around $0.20.

The macroeconomic development coincided with ADA’s technical retreat and the elevated concentration of long liquidations.

Dijkstra Development Continues

Alongside the market movement, Cardano development is continuing toward the Dijkstra era. According to Intersect, work is progressing across node development, protocol parameters, supporting infrastructure and node diversity.

Node 11.1 is currently in pre-release, while Node 11.2 is expected within the next two to three weeks. The planned Node 11.2 release is expected to include the Plutus V4 ledger interface and provide greater visibility into Dijkstra for early testing.

The Node 11.2 release is not considered the hard-fork-ready version. A feature-complete Node 11.3 release is expected in the months ahead, while the broader Dijkstra delivery timeline continues to be assessed alongside the node release schedule.

Stake pool operators can also continue participating in Leios development through the Musashi testnet, where a rewards program was announced earlier this month.
