Bitcoin Price Near $63K as Morgan Stanley Expands Crypto ETFs

Trading view data on August 15 showed that Bitcoin price was trading at $63,000 with low volumes, open interest and the impact of institutional investors via ETFs.

At press time, Bitcoin price stood at $62,951.70, a 0.3% increase over 24 hours, while the market cap was at $1.26 trillion. At the same time, 24-hour trading volume declined 10.15%.

The market data showed Bitcoin moving between roughly $62,500 and $63,100 during the monitored period, while technical indicators continued to point to short-term weakness.

Bitcoin Price Faces Technical Resistance

On the four-hour timeframe, Bitcoin traded at $62,986 and remained below its 20-, 50-, 100- and 200-period exponential moving averages. Those averages stood at $63,279, $63,703, $63,904 and $64,019, respectively. The price also remained below the 20-period simple moving average at $63,282.

The Relative Strength Index stood at 38.46, below the neutral 50 level but above the 30 threshold commonly used to identify oversold conditions. Bitcoin had previously declined toward the $62,700 area before making a modest recovery.

The Fibonacci levels identified additional price areas:

  • The 0.618 retracement stood at $63,025, while the 0.786 level was at $62,649.
  • Support was also identified near $62,573.
  • Resistance appeared at $63,282, $63,554 and $63,992.

A move above $63,282 would place Bitcoin above the 20-period moving averages, while a decline below $62,649 would bring the lower support levels into focus based on the supplied technical readings.

Institutional Bitcoin ETF Holdings Increase

Bitcoin price weakness occurred alongside changes in institutional ETF exposure. Morgan Stanley increased its position in the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF by 23% during the second quarter, bringing its reported holding to approximately 16.5 million shares, according to data shared by CoinMarketCap.

Morgan Stanley also increased its position in the iShares Ethereum Trust ETF by about 202% to 4.6 million shares. The reported figures show that the firm expanded its holdings in both Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded products during the quarter.

Two Abu Dhabi sovereign investors, Mubadala Investment Company and the Abu Dhabi Investment Council, maintained their combined holdings of BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF through June 30. Regulatory filings showed that the two investors held 22.94 million IBIT shares at the end of the second quarter.

Their combined position was valued at about $881.4 million at the end of March and about $764 million at the end of June. The share count remained unchanged, meaning the reported decline in value occurred without a reduction in the number of shares held.

Mubadala’s position totaled 14,721,917 IBIT shares on June 30, unchanged from three months earlier. Its reported stake was valued at $490.1 million, down from $565.6 million at the end of March. The position remained its second-largest reported holding in its $34.8 billion 13F portfolio.

Mubadala had increased its IBIT position by almost 16% during the first quarter, adding more than 2 million shares as Bitcoin weakened. The investor had also increased the position by about 46% during the final quarter of 2025. Despite those earlier additions, the share count remained unchanged between March 31 and June 30.

The filings showed that the unchanged share count contrasted with the lower reported value of the holdings between the two quarters, while Morgan Stanley increased positions in both Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs during Q2.

Open Interest and Volume Show Reduced Activity

Bitcoin open interest has fallen from a previous peak above $90 billion. The decline occurred alongside weaker Bitcoin price performance and left recent open interest levels below earlier highs shown in the supplied data.

Trading volume has also remained volatile, with several large spikes occurring during major price movements. Recent volume levels were lower than earlier peaks. CoinMarketCap data showed 24-hour volume at $17.79 billion, down 10.15%.

The combined data showed Bitcoin price holding near $63,000 while open interest and recent trading volume remained below their earlier peaks.
